Nice Showcase of Work!

Kudos to all of you who showed off your podcasts at our last meeting. You all have done a great job and it's obvious that you have been working really hard on this. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work as we progress...keep up the good work!

Accessibility Issues

I attended a presentation by Rich Baker from the Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) this past Wednesday. It turns out we need to make our podcasts accessible for those with disabilities in very specific ways.

Four Video Podcasts

We converted four of my Camtasia tutorials into video podcasts! I downloaded them to my iPod and since they are so short it didn't take long at all. The text is a little small on the tiny screen but I think they still work pretty well!

10 Tips for Improving Your Podcasts

I didn't really find too much I wasn't already aware of in this 2005 article by Jack Herrington but I thought the following was funny and wanted to share:

My suggestion to anyone looking to start podcasting is to try a beercast. A beercast is a podcast from a bar. The setup is simple: four cheap but rugged microphones are positioned around a cheap Behringer mixer, which is attached to a cheap MP3 recorder. A theme is presented to four random participants and the action begins. It's fun, easy, and really enjoyable.

Also from 2005, There's Something in the Air: Podcasting in Education and The Podcasting Legal Guide. Lots of good links in the first one...

Wow

Dr. Dixon is already changing the world with his iPod and I'm still figuring out how to use mine!

I decided to start my own blog (in addition to posting to this one)to keep up with my experiences and with articles and links that could be useful to other librarians working on podcasts:

Viewing and posting to the site

Some of you may experience weird layouts on the site...could be browser issues, but could also be the site. I just got this setup today and am still working on it. Hope to have the bugs worked out by tomorrow.

Welcome to the University of Southern Mississippi Podcasting Pilot Project blog..

Hi All,
Welcome to our blog site. This will be a great place for us to share information, articles, resources, ideas, and all of the "good, bad, and ugly" of podcasting! If you have any problems posting, please let me know and I'll follow up.

Looking forward to a great project!
